OUR FOUNDER...LEONIE THOMAS (HOARE)
DISC FOUNDER-DIRECTOR
Leonie knows what its like to be disadvantaged, as a teenager she spent time in and out of refuges. Leonie was diagnosed with LUPUS in 2007 this affected her ability to work and resulted in her having to cease employment, this later resulted in her finding herself homeless yet again and having to live in and out of various shelters.
Years earlier Leonie did a skin care/makeup course, Her dream was to work with youth in refuges, kids at school facing social isolation due to bad home enviroments and women returning too society, In 2009 she participated in the niece program run by the govt. so as to do workshops with long term unemployed. Leonie has expanded on those ideas and looked at ways that can reconnect and empower those whom feel disengaged no matter what their reason.
Leonie says "Standing in a queue with a coupon to get a meal is an extraordinary experience it makes you realise whats important. I cant house those whom are homeless, but i can certainly do my part in making their journey more rewarding by putting a smile on their face and reconnecting them back to the community in which they live"
Leonie comes from an employment back ground of management. She has a cert 4 in news media and journalism, cert 4 in youth work, has studied business management and a cert 4 in community service.
She now finds herself in a position where she is able to work on and expand her ideas, In 2011 she started developing programs and forming aliances with various businesses and organisations that would enable disadvantaged people to reconnect with the community in which they live. Leonie is now able to pursue her dream of making a difference and doing something positive for those whom are experiencing hardships.
